Daily Bowl’s fleet has never been glamorous. It began with a personal SUV packed to the roof with pineapples and watermelons. Then came a $500 van, bought in April 2017 and stolen that June. After that, a retired mortuary van — the volunteers called it the hearse — and a donated minivan.
In early 2020, a post about a vandalized van reached Alameda County Supervisor Scott Haggerty’s office. A $50,000 grant followed, and with it Daily Bowl’s first refrigerated van, a GMC Savana. It arrived weeks before COVID-19 shut the county down.
That van moved 726,191 pounds of food in its first months on the road. In 2021 the county funded a refrigerated Ford Transit, and in September 2025 a 16-foot refrigerated box truck joined the fleet, its wrap paid for by the Fremont Bank Foundation. One truck now covers several donors in a single trip.
